Jackie Scrimgeour presents the Gold Star Employer award to Linzi Low
with Lindsay Davidson (Digital Marketing Modern Apprentice from The Hub), and Iain Low

Established in the 1990's, Iain & Linzi Low from Marques of Scone have had great success in supplying the East of Scotland and surrounding areas with high quality vehicles. The family run business is fully aware of the importance of recruiting the right staff. They also recognise the need to nurture and develop those people as Iain Low explains.

“We are a local employer that has been in business for 20 years and as we are a small firm, it is important that we get the right staff. We have recruited Apprentice’s in association with The Hub and recommendations from Perth College. We have had 3 Apprentices over the last few years and all have been around 19 years old and are studying & training in Motor Mechanics. They attend Perth College as part of their development programme which provides the underpinning knowledge of the course, and then at our garage, they get the hands on experience and are guided through all aspects of Motor Mechanics plus the day to day experience with work colleagues and customers”.

“Not only does this improve their ability in their job but it improves their communication skills and builds their confidence in everyday life.”

“Our first trainee after his apprenticeship had finished, gained a City & Guilds Award and secured full time employment with the garage and has been with Marques of Scone for 5 years and is a well-established Motor Mechanic. Our second Apprentice again gained the same qualification, he decided with his skills and confidence to step out into the world and go travelling with his Automotive Apprenticeship ‘under his belt’ as he confidently knew he had that to support him”.

“With the support of Perth & Kinross Council at The Hub and Scotland’s Employer Recruitment Incentive funding, this has allowed our business to offer support, nurture & pass on invaluable skills to young people and secure their future with a full time job”.

“We have recently started our third apprentice who lives in Auchtermuchty, and he is showing great attitude and promise”.
