The Skills and Employment Support Team offers an ‘all purpose’ employability service throughout Perth & Kinross to support business growth, people progressing and a wider skills agenda.
The team focus support in 2 specific fields:
- Supporting and advising job seeking clients with all aspects of employability and skills development
- Engaging with and supporting local businesses in recruiting and retaining staff to aid business growth
Assisting an individual on their journey towards meaningful and sustainable employment cannot be underestimated. Benefits include better health and wellbeing, improved economic activity, community inclusion and more.

Skills Passport
Funded grant for unemployed to access training to enhance their chances of sustainable employment and business opportunities.
This grant was devised to offer the wider community in Perth and Kinross funding for training courses which are unobtainable by any other means, in order to help them with their journey back into employment or business start-up. The grant offers financial support for training courses to enable individuals to overcome barriers to employment or sustaining better employment opportunities. This project is part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
What funding is available?Up to £3,000 can be acquired for training for unemployed individuals.
Who is eligible to apply for funding?All residents in Perth and Kinross who are currently unemployed and have lived in the area for 3 months or more are eligible. All applications will be considered providing evidence has been shown, and will be reviewed at a panel assessment.

Futures For Families
Assisting parents with dependent children to advance within the job market, whether that be securing & sustaining employment or advancing within current role or organisation.
Futures for Families is a new initiative, part funded by the Scottish Government under the Parental Employment Support Fund. Futures for Families aims to support parents to access or progress in work. This is delivered locally by the Skills & Employment Initiatives Team.
The programme offers a tailored package of support to eligible parents. Whether a client is in or out of work they will receive relevant assistance to progress, with the ultimate aim of securing well paid, highly skilled employment.
Programme offerings include:
- Support in searching, securing and sustaining employment from a designated Key Worker
- Training and skills action planning
- In-work support to progress, in the form of a Skills and Training Grant - Elev8 Employment and Training Grant
Eligibility for Participants
Futures for Families will focus on supporting eligible parents in a number of ways in order to assist them in progressing with their employment goals.
Support will be available for parents who fall into any one or more of the following categories:
- Lone Parents
- Parent or child with a disability
- 3+ Children
- Minority Ethnic
- Youngest Child < 1
- Parents aged < 25

Future Works – Employer Recruitment Incentive
Our new Future Works Employer Recruitment Incentive provides employers with a financial contribution towards the additional costs of recruiting and sustaining an individual in good quality employment. The purpose of the fund is to support employers and encourage recruitment of unemployed individuals into brand new job, sustainable employment opportunities and apprenticeships/traineeships. The funding can be utilised for staff wages and training costs.
This year we have 3 separate incentives that you can apply for based on the individual and opportunity you are looking to create.
Health, Disabilities & Reserved Benefits ERI
Reserved for individuals with disabilities and those on reserved benefits who are at risk of long-term unemployment (9+ months) - (up to £8,000). This fund is supported by Perth & Kinross Local Employability Partnership (LEP) with funding from the Scottish Government’s No-One Left Behind (NOLB) 25/26
Parental ERI
Reserved for eligible parents (up to £8,000) Must be a parent falling in one or more of the following categories: Lone Parent, Parents <25, Minority Ethnic, Parent/Child with disability, youngest child <1, 3+ children.
Apprenticeship/Traineeship ERI
Reserved for new apprenticeships/traineeships (£4,000)
